Feeding the Maddow addiction...again.

While I'm totally thrilled that the NYTimes has posted 2 articles in as many days about Ms. Maddow, can I just rant about something? Today's article covers her skyrocketing ratings, and it's a nice little piece. Yet, when they get to the part about her not owning a t.v. this is how they cover it:

It helps, she said, that she does not own a television at home.

Even so, Ms. Maddow said, she has finally committed to getting a set, primarily so that her companion can watch her program.

(emphasis mine)

Companion? Maybe someone needs to "talk ME down", but I hate this word choice. It's such a cop out, it's cowardly and certainly not equal to the way they would talk about a heterosexual relationship. In her interview yesterday she said this "My partner, Susan Mikula..."

I'm back, because it matters

Like many, I've been trying to ignore the crazy comments being spewed at McCain and Palin's most recent rallies. The crowds making calls of "Terrorist!" and "Kill him!" when mentioning Sen. Obama. I've been ignoring them and chalking them up to the vitriol of this campaign. But we shouldn't. Words matter. They are indicative of some deeper disease in this world. Think I'm wrong? How about this? Many months back a friend said to me "I really like that Obama guy, but it's terrible he'll probably get shot." I was horrified and pissed at such a suggestion; that it would be so obvious to him that someone would want to take the life of a President. Now, I feel like the naive one.

I'm going to M.I.A for a bit...heavy duty life stuff came up. In summary; unemployment, rehab, death, new babies...I'll be back in a bit to rejuvenate this blog. Right now it's time to care for those I love.

Rachel Maddow has her own show! (finally)

YAY! I'm so excited to see this finally happen. I have had the biggest woman-crush on Rachel Maddow for months. Her snarky, sarcastic, cutting wit makes me swoon. I'm thrilled to see that MSNBC has finally realized it's time to get rid of Verdict, and give Rachel her own show.

I know, I'm totally geeking out over this, but does anyone else feel the chill of hell freezing over? I mean an ACTUAL progressive/liberal talk show host? Wait, even better, a brilliant Rhodes Scholar, AIDS activist, Gay woman?! Where are my smelling salts? I may faint.
