Rachel Maddow has her own show! (finally)

YAY! I'm so excited to see this finally happen. I have had the biggest woman-crush on Rachel Maddow for months. Her snarky, sarcastic, cutting wit makes me swoon. I'm thrilled to see that MSNBC has finally realized it's time to get rid of Verdict, and give Rachel her own show.
I know, I'm totally geeking out over this, but does anyone else feel the chill of hell freezing over? I mean an ACTUAL progressive/liberal talk show host? Wait, even better, a brilliant Rhodes Scholar, AIDS activist, Gay woman?! Where are my smelling salts? I may faint.
Completely gratuitous pictures and video after the fold.

Rachel and Keith discussing her new show on Countdown last night:
Oh hello there...

Rachel talks about the bs behind off shore drilling:
Did I mention she and her partner Susan Mikula live in Northampton? As if I needed another reason to adore her:

Overheard in the Young Adult section of Cambridge public library:
"Jeans are supposed to be comfortable. It's like they're making these skinny jeans so we can be miserable and compete in the Who's Got a Better Body Competition all at the same time! ugh."
What i wish i said back to her:
"Yes, yes they are my tween friend. You've got an advantage though, you figured it out nice and early. Where were you when I was 13? I sure could have used a voice of reason then! Keep talking like that, especially to your five BFF's sitting there with you. They're going to need it. Oh and thanks for making my Monday lunch break. You rock." Read more!

In search of new music
A few months back I wandered through this website (no idea how I got there, so if you're responsible THANKS!). I've become a devoted reader. They post reviews on new albums, along with mp3's for download. As their "about" says "And because we link directly to the official label and artist websites where we found these links, you won't have to worry about the RIAA breathing down your neck"
Nice. I love free music. I found Kate Tucker and the Sons of Sweden through this site, and promptly went off and bought the whole album. See? i don't need no stinking Virgin Mega Store!
anyway,
head over. find yourself a new summer album. Read more!

Please let this be true!!
Two kooky guys in Georgia say they've found Big Foot.
Part of me really wants these guys to get their acclaim if it is real. They probably spent decades of their lives enduring serious ridicule.
Then again, part of me wants it to be a hoax, so people can keep searching for the creature. By searching, I mean SEARCHING. There are a ton of groups that go on "Field Research Expeditions" (for the 2008 schedule go here) For those of you less inclined to stomping around the remote Sierras, there's always the plethora of 'Squatch gear. *cough* Christmas present *cough*
As a last ditch, if you're not into the apparel, do BF a favor, and buy his book. He could use the cash.

50 by '09
I've decided I'm going to read 50 books by 2009. This doesn't include the two i'm currently reading now. 50 MORE books. I realized I've become exceptionally ill-read in the past few years, and need to fix that. So I'm looking for some suggestions... Here's what i've got on my reading list so far:
Comments? Suggestions? I've tried to mix it up with some fiction and non. If you've got any "must reads" let me know! Thanks!
**UPDATE**
If you haven't returned the 3 books you borrowed from the public library back in '04, they really don't want you to borrow again. Just an FYI. (whoops!) Read more!

Random Wine recommendation..

On a totally different note, I'm throwing up a wine recommendation. Since it's friday, I'm totally craving a cool after-work adult beverage. This is what immediately came to mind. It's stellar. If you see a bottle of it in a wine store GRAB IT. It's a little pricey (around $30), but it's worth it to me. I crave this wine. Happy Friday! Read more!
Manny's gone...
Like Dougie Long Ball and Kevin Millahh, another endearing goofball has left us. I know I should be either outraged or thrilled that we're changing the face of the sox, but it's business you know? I'm mostly sad to lose his character and quirky nature, his silly smile and funny smirk. So now I wonder, who are we going to turn to for dugout antics? Any suggestions?
